Introducing the Outerknown Tahiti Pro

Posted Jul 08, 2026

Some waves don't need an introduction. Teahupo'o is one of them. And this August, Outerknown becomes the title sponsor of the 2026 Outerknown Tahiti Pro Presented by I-SEA, Stop No. 7 on the World Surf League Championship Tour. With the event window running August 8 to 18, the Outerknown Tahiti Pro is bringing the world's best surfers on the planet back to one of the heaviest, most feared and beautiful waves on Planet Earth, known to those who surf it simply as “the end of the road.”

What’s more: Kelly Slater, Outerknown co-founder and 11x World Champion, is coming back as a wildcard entry.

Over three decades, Kelly has built a career on waves like this one. Teahupo'o has been one of his defining venues, with five event wins across seven finals there, a resume that includes two perfect 20-point heat totals and a 2014 semifinal against John John Florence that's still talked about today, when both surfers posted matching 19.77 heat scores in the same heat.

“I’m stoked to be in as a wildcard at Teahupo’o this year,” said Kelly. “I’ve been recovering from hip surgery late last year and recently got back to surfing daily. I’m really looking forward to getting myself locked in before August comes around and hoping for great conditions in Tahiti to give us all a good challenge. No pressure for me coming into this one, but I also haven’t competed in quite a long time, so it’ll be fun to see how I go getting in the mix with everyone. If I can relax and just focus on what I know out there, I should have a good time.”

Now he's stepping back into that lineup, not as a favorite chasing a title, but as a wildcard with nothing to prove and everything to gain. It's the kind of return that only makes sense, coincidentally landing on the same year Outerknown turns 11.

"Tahiti has been a place of deep inspiration and respect for Kelly, our team, and the surf community for decades," says Dylan Slater, Outerknown CEO. "The people, the environment, the culture, and its unparalleled surf have built friendships, inspired product, and forged an enduring brand connection. So, it's an absolute honor for Outerknown to partner with this iconic event. And to have our co-founder and 5x Tahiti Pro Champion, Kelly Slater, return to Teahupo'o as a wildcard as we go into our 11th year in business, this moment feels even more special. We're proud to partner with the WSL to bring the world's best surfers to the world's most exciting wave."

Of course, this isn't totally new territory for us. Outerknown has partnered with the WSL on events like the Fiji Pro, the Tahiti Pro, and last year's Trestles Pro, always building pieces (the most responsibly) for the moments that matter most in the water.

As title sponsor and official merchandise partner, Outerknown is producing the event's official apparel, including tees made with Regenerative Organic Certified® cotton. It's a natural extension of what we already build for days like these, Kelly's signature APEX Evolution Trunks made with NetPlus® recycled nylon reclaimed from fishing nets, along with hooded shirts, rashguards, swimsuits, and the layers built to move with you from the lineup to everywhere after.

Catch all the action at Teahupo'o from August 8 to 18, live at WorldSurfLeague.com, and watch Kelly step back into the wave that's shaped so much of his life, and, many of ours.
